The Shy Blogger

There are so many reasons why I have only 2 posts on travel (a relatively impersonal topic) in all of the 10 months I've had this blog. I'm a big blog junkie. I know Xiaxue, Mr Brown, Mr Miyagi, LMD, like old friends. I may not know what are the Straits Times headlines are today, but I sure know what are their latest posts. They don't know me of course. I'm just an anonymous fan among their legions of screaming fans. Here are my reasons.

1. I don't like to think of myself as a narcissist.

Having a blog talking about yourself seems to me the epitome of narcissim. (Yes, I do realise the irony of this post.) It seems almost exhibitionistic (got such a word?). Think about this: blogs evolved from diaries, and diaries are supposed to be private, kept under lock and key, and you would beat up your kid brother/sister to a pulp if they dared read it. The very public nature of blogs defies the fundamental nature of diaries completely.

2. It is cooler to be silent.

Don't those mysterious, attractive, beautiful people who say very little always intrigue you into wanting to know others better? I have to admit though, that staying silent in the bloggersphere does nothing for your social life.

3. I'm Shy

I still haven't gotten used to the idea that anyone can just read this blog, possibly know what's going on in my head, psycho-analyse me, possibly recognise me in the street if I eventually bring myself to post some photos.

SO WHY THIS POST?

To experience the thrill my blog idols feel when they click the "Publish" button. To know what it feels like to be just a bit of a narcissist or exhibitionist. So I've decided to put my fingers to the keyboard and type out this little post.

You know, it really is a rather heady experience. I'm going to click the Publish button now...
